If your insomnia is a result of a sleep disorder like sleep apnea then some of the suggestions below may not be effective. The best option would be to consult with your physician or Northstate Sleep Therapy to diagnose and consider treatment options. Below are some suggestions that can help fight off insomnia.
Set a sleep schedule.
→ Trying to go to sleep at different times each night can disrupt your body’s sleep routine.
30 minutes of moderate exercise per day.
Don’t allow backlit devices into your bedroom.
→ Backlit devices or lights shining into your eyes at night can hinder the production of the hormone melatonin which can seriously interrupt your sleep.
Don’t nap late in the day.
Natural light during the day. Dim the lights during the night.
→ Exposure to natural light during the day can help you stay awake. But during the evening times, bright lights can cause your body to fend off sleep. So dim the lights or turn them off altogether.
